about Forget Me Not
Who Are We?
We are all young people who have had dementia or Alzheimer’s affect a loved one, leaving a profound impact on our lives. As many who have experienced the disease will know, it can bring with it a strong sense of powerlessness. You could say that the motivation to initiate Forget-Me-Not came from as an expression of raging against the powerlessness – we just wanted to do SOMETHING. We are not able to fix the one we love, but perhaps we can find comfort in sharing, and contribute to the future solution.
More about the Forget-Me-Not Team...
The Forget Me Not Girls have been appointed Young Ambassadors for Alzheimer’s Australia. We are extremely honoured and grateful for the opportunity to work closely with Alzheimer’s Australia to achieve our aim of encouraging the younger generation contribute to the conversation around Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
How will we do it?
Our success of the Forget Me Not Cocktail was heartening. During Dementia Awareness Week 2010 we held a cocktail evening targeting 250 young people. The event was an opportunity to share our stories and experiences, learn about the exciting developments for care, prevention and cure, but most of all be an opportunity for this demographic to stand up and say “I care”. We care about our families and loved ones, the prospects for a cure, and the policies affecting the care and treatment of those who live with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
In Dementia Awareness Week 2011, we will be holding our second function to achieve our aims of sharing our stories and experiences and showing the community that we care about this disease.
